Alumni College 2013: May 29 - 31

Come back to college!

 See Who's Coming

REVOLUTION!

Revolution! What does that word mean? We often think of political revolution when we hear the word, but its meaning extends beyond politics. Revolutions occur within culture, within arts and science, within music. Revolutions can be economic revolutions, socio-political revolutions, or industrial revolutions. They can change our world view or force us to examine things in new ways. Revolutions challenge the status quo and they push when no one is pushing. Revolutions, it seems, are at the very heart of who we are as Grinnellians.

At Grinnell, students have studied, observed, and been a part of many revolutions. We have upheld the right of revolution and have long held, in high esteem, those pioneers who took matters into their own hands. This year at Alumni College, we invite you to join us on a journey exploring what Revolution means and how it is so much a part of what makes us uniquely human (and what makes us uniquely Grinnellian). We will traverse the subject of Revolution from many angles at Alumni College. Along with stimulating lectures and engaged discussions, we will take an exciting excursion examining both the Civil War and the controversial court decision in Iowa that paved the way for legalizing marriage for same sex couples.

We will then take this “show on the road” throughout the 2013-2014 year – visiting many alumni communities to continue that dialogue through faculty lectures and engagements in regions all over the United States. Our year of examination will culminate in a revisit to this subject at Alumni College 2014, with new and exciting lectures, unique experiences and celebrations.

Reconnect with former classmates and meet alumni from the 1940s through the present, while enjoying the intellectual challenge of a Grinnell education – without the grades!  Sign up early.  Spaces are limited.

Join the Revolution! Be a part of Alumni College 2013.
