Rebecca H. Heller '11
Alumni Senior Award
Most people go to college to improve their own lives, but for this student, college also served as an opportunity to improve the lives of others. Through the meaningful academic and volunteer work she did at Grinnell, this student made an impact during her four years on campus and is poised to do even more after graduation.
As a history major, this student has been praised by professors as intelligent, dedicated, and enthusiastic. She has served as a member of the history Student Educational Policy Committee.
Outside of the classroom, her work has been remarkable. She spent three years as the leader of Chalutzim and has looked outside campus to do volunteer work in town for the Adopt-a-Grandparent program and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She has led several Alternative Break trips.
During her summers, she has worked with underprivileged children in Harlem, and volunteered during an off-campus study program in Costa Rica. Her fellow students call her "amazing," "joyous," and someone whose "commitment to social justice is contagious."
Next year, she will continue her good works as an Americorps volunteer working with adults with developmental disabilities. For her genuine commitment to social service and for living Grinnell values, Grinnell is honored to recognize Rebecca H. Heller '11.
